Dr. Ariel Whitworth, L.Ac., DACM, MA, is a doctor of Chinese medicine, acupuncturist, intuitive healer, herbalist, writer and editor, yoga instructor, and visionary artist. She synthesizes a variety of healing modalities, such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, aromatherapy, sound therapy, gua sha (a pain-relieving therapy), Chinese massage, and dietary and lifestyle therapies, to bring the body, mind, and spirit to a place of harmony and balance.
Ariel believes in a whole-body approach to medicine—to truly find a route to wellness, you target not just the symptoms, but the root of the condition. As such, she relies on strong client connection, which means a willingness to listen and understand exactly what’s going on for you—your history, your symptoms, your needs. As an acupuncturist and herbalist, she has worked successfully with patients experiencing orthopedic and sports injuries, chronic and acute pain, mental health conditions, trauma, insomnia, stress, depression, internal medical and autoimmune conditions, gastrointestinal issues, women’s health issues, and more.
Orthopedic and Sports Medicine. Ariel has always been interested in physical fitness and kinesiology. She has a passion for athletics, including dance, aerial/circus arts, running, hiking, and yoga instruction. While finishing her doctorate at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, Ariel apprenticed with an orthopedic and pain specialist, and became adept at treating injuries and working with pain management. She has helped numerous athletes, dancers, acute and chronic pain clients, and others with a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and traumas.
Mental Health and Stress. With a background in neuroscience and biology, Ariel has always been interested in the mind-body connection. She uses a variety of creative modalities to work with many mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, and insomnia. Whether you need to feel grounded, held, heard, lifted, freed, or something entirely unexpected, she’ll find a way to work with you.
Individualized Herbal Medicine. Throughout her education and career, Ariel has studied or apprenticed with numerous herbal instructors and mentors. She has come to understand herbal and plant-based medicine as a powerful way to navigate physical and emotional well-being, bringing balance during the changes in season and the winds of life. Through careful observation and investigation, and a strong understanding of the medicine that each plant offers, Ariel constructs formulas specific to the constitution of each individual.
Ariel is a NCCAOM-certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine and is California board-certified as a Licensed Acupuncturist. She holds licenses in Colorado and California. She earned a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego.
